The 49ers most tenured player has changed his number from #20 to #1 after posting his new jersey to his Instagam story.
This is actually not first time the safety has changed his number. When the 49ers signed Richard Sherman during free agency, Ward gave up the number 25 that Sherman made famous up in Seattle, subsequently switching to number 20.
Ward may be the only safety in the league to wear #1 as he takes advantage of the change to the jersey restrictions lifted by the NFL. Most of the starting DBs have switched to single-digit numbers.
