The 49ers' have added running back Brian Hill, a former 5th round pick out of Wyoming. The team also released S Tony Jefferson from the Practice Squad in a corresponding move.
Hill has been on and off rosters since his time entering the league, playing two stints with the Falcons as well as having stops on the Bengals, Titans, and Browns rosters. Hill has compiled 945 rushing yards, 3 touchdowns, 38 receptions and 313 receiving yards, adding a touchdown through the air.
Personally, I like this signing based on who is currently available on the market. He's a zone-runner who is capable of seeing cutback lanes and hitting them decisively. Not a burner with 4.54 speed, however he can beat you if he gets the angle on defenders and has solid vision. He was a prospect I had my eye on coming out of Wyoming and believe he could fit in with the 49ers due to the injuries to the RB room.
It was reported that standout rookie RB Elijah Mitchell is dealing with some additional injury concerns this week, per Kyle Shanahan (concussion/knee). With JaMycal Hasty being the only healthy RB at the moment, the addition likely indicates that both Mitchell and Wilson are in doubt for Sunday's game against the Bengals.
