49ers' Dee Ford Responds To "False" Report About His Potential Release

Brad Graham • December 15, 2021

Dee Ford said he isn't gone for good, just for right now.

A report surfaced late last night from ProFootballTalk.com regarding 49ers' often-injured defensive end, Dee Ford.

The report indicated that Ford had been telling his teammates his goodbyes and it was assumed that he was saying goodbye for good. Ford says that report was "false", per NFL reporter Mike Silver.

Mike Florio of ProFootbalTalk was reporting that Dee Ford had texted a group chat of 49ers' players saying his goodbyes which appears to be true, however was taken out of context as it was being reported that could be a strong indication that Ford would be released.

Dee Ford texted NFL reporter Mike Silver and told him the Florio report was "false" and that the defensive end was not being released.

Although it is true that Ford said his goodbyes, the reasoning is because Dee Ford will remain on injured reserve for the rest of the year which likely means he will not be around the team. Players on IR typically do not hang around the team often.

Below is the report from Mike Silver:

It appears Dee Ford is here to stay, at least for the remainder of the 2021 season. Obviously, when a player has only been available for a hand full of games over the past two season and is one of the highest paid players on the team, fans naturally want to see production from said player.

Even though Dee Ford was very productive in 2019, turning in one of the most prolific seasons in regards to pressures created on the teams way to the Super Bowl, this is a "what have you done for me lately" league.

I anticipate we will see a similar offseason from Dee Ford as we saw heading into 2021. Based on the contract structure, all signs point to Dee Ford getting another shot to make an impact in 2022, despite that being an unpopular thought amongst the fan base.
