With less than 24 hours removed from the Los Angeles Rams win over the Cincinnati Bengals to become Super Bowl Champions, there are already plenty of trade rumors that have been kicked around regarding 49ers' QB Jimmy Garoppolo.
It was thought that the 49ers could move Jimmy Garoppolo for a 2nd round pick and maybe a mix of other assets. However, The Athletic is reporting today that a Washington executive believes the Commanders would be willing to move their 1st overall draft selection (pick 11) for the rights to acquire veteran QB Jimmy Garoppolo.
Now that the Super Bowl is over and there are no more football games to be played, the rumor mill has already picked up substantial head of steam and I don't anticipate it will slow down anytime soon.
The Athletic sites the lack of supply and demand of veteran starters already existing in the NFL combined from a weak incoming QB class according to most predominant draft scouts, leading to the rise in Jimmy Garoppolo's value. Although Garoppolo is a polarizing figure amongst 49ers' fans, another fan base could like the idea of getting a QB who has led his team to the Conference Championship game twice in the last three season, including one Super Bowl apperance.
Yesterday, NFL Network said Jimmy Garoppolo's no trade clause will expire at the official start of the new league year, however that will not hold up any potential trade prior to said deadline. Both sides are committed to finding a landing spot that works for both the player and team.
It will be very interesting to see if the 49ers can actually land a 1st round pick in exchange for Jimmy Garoppolo.
