As if the offseason didn't need any additional stoking of its flames, ESPN's Adam Schefter joined the Ari Meriov NFL Show and had discussions regarding the likelihood that Jimmy Garoppolo would be traded from the San Francisco 49ers.
Schefter quickly jumped into the conversation to say not so fast on a "likely" Garoppolo trade:
"You say likely on Garoppolo (trade), I guess that's fair but I'm just telling you, Trey Lance was probably further behind than people realize. Trey Lance is Greener than people realized. Trey Lance is going to need more work than people realize and they have a roster that can win now."
Clearly Adam Schefter isn't sold on the idea that Trey Lance is ready to win now with the current 49ers roster.
ESPN’s Adam Schefter says “I don’t think it’s a lock” that Jimmy Garoppolo gets traded this year, per @MySportsUpdate podcast.

You can add Adam Schefter to the long list of talking heads who continue to question if Trey Lance is ready to take over as the lead signal caller at the age of 22.
To be honest, it is a fair thought process to wonder if a guy who hasn't played a meaning football season since 2019 at the FCS level is ready to lead an entire NFL franchise, however we won't really know unless he is given the opportunity and a sense of belief to be able to show if he can or not.
We have heard from sources inside the 49ers building that Trey Lance is indeed ready and they are very happy with his progress thus far, as FOX's Jay Glazer tells NBCS Reporter Matt Maiocco.
Let's not pretend that he was drafted into a great situation where everything was geared towards getting the most out of Lance as a rookie because it wasn't. By all accounts, Trey Lance entering the 49ers' locker room was a clear threat to Jimmy Garoppolo being the starting QB and the players stood behind Jimmy Garoppolo in this instance, not necessarily Trey Lance.
Being in an environment like that could deteriorate a young players confidence so it will be interesting to see where Lance is at next season to determine if he can overcome everything that is being said about him. What will be truly interesting is to see how the pressure of being the #3 overall pick in the NFL draft combined with primarily playing scout team for most of 2021 will translate in the form of development in 2022.
At this point, only time will tell if Trey Lance is ready and if Jimmy Garoppolo gets traded or not.
"Feels great, baby"
