In today's new media age, we are seeing more and more players take to social media to take hold of their own narratives. In years past, we would typically only hear from players via beat reporters, team designated interviews, or the occasional national Tv hit.

Now, using social media, podcasts, and live streaming these players are able to be themselves and be honest with how they feel about certain situations as they see fit.

Impending 49ers' free agent DE Arden Key went on Instagram live today and opened it up to questions from the chat, so naturally I asked as many as I could, starting with how Key felt about Trey Lance as a rookie developing on scout team.

Key had nothing but good things to say about the rookie signal-caller:

Clearly, Trey Lance has already become a polarizing figure amongst the seemingly never satisfied 49ers' fanbase but there has been a lot of positive things said about Trey Lance in the last week.

Being fresh off covering the scouting combine in Indianapolis, we heard a lot of positive things from reputable football minds across then NFL spectrum.

The consensus is that Trey Lance has a bright future ahead of him and with Kyle Shanahan, they can do some serious damage in the league together. Jordan Elliott of NinersNation.com polled what felt like half the league on Trey Lance during the week long scouting combine and everything we heard in return was positive about the former #3 overall pick.

Arden Key didn't just talk about Trey Lance, he also talked about his current contract status with the 49ers.

Key was signed to the 49ers on a 1-year deal after being released by the Raiders before the 2021 season. Arden went on to compile 6.5 sacks and became a big time contributor down the stretch.

However, we understand the 49ers' front office will need to be very intentional with how to spend their money with the likelihood of Nick Bosa and Deebo Samuel getting mega-deals in the very near future.

Key had this to say about his current negotiation status in getting a new deal with the 49ers:

Key went into more detail in the video ay the top of the page about Trey Lance, his contract situation with the 49ers, and many other topics.

It will continue to be a very interesting topic in regards to seeing how all the free agent chips fall this offseason.
