Roster Moves: 49ers' Bring Back Two And Decline LB's Option

Brad Graham • March 6, 2021

The 49ers bring back two impactful pieces that could have expanded roles in 2021.

Fans of the 49ers will likely understand that these two particular moves have legitimate impact to the teams final roster in 2021.

Marcell Harris

Safety Marcell Harris fills an important spot with the potential of starting safety Jaquiski Tartt heading to free agency. Marcell has been a key special teammer and spot starter since he joined the team as a former 6th round pick.

He has an opportunity to see his role expanded with a real shot of winning the starting spot next to Jimmie Ward in 2021.

Ross Dwelley

Tight End Ross Dwelley comes back and fans should welcome him with open arms as he has been an absolutely crucial piece to the Kyle Shanahan puzzle over the past few seasons.

Whether filling in for an injured George Kittle or playing full back when Kyle Juszczyk went down for multiple weeks, Ross has answered the call every single time.

With impending FA Kyle Juszczyk return uncertain at this point, the 49ers could potentially play Dwelley exclusively at full back if Juice finds more money on the open market.

Mark Nzeocha

The 49ers also declined the contract option of special teams ace/LB Mark Nzeocha.

Mark has been a key special teamer for the 49ers for the last few years. The team decides to go in a different direction that will net them some additional money to spend on free agents.

Next week we should see a whirlwind of roster moves across the league.
